Portland Japanese Garden: Translating Tradition: The Ecological Design Of The Garden’s New Space (2.5 CEUs)

This new event — a combined lecture and guided walk — offers a close-up and personal look at the details and the intentions behind the ecologically-sensitive design of the new spaces of the Garden. This half-day program, hosted by Garden staff, starts with a short talk in the classroom about the design and construction process of the new spaces, including the green roofs. From there the group goes on a tour of the bonsai collections, the dry creekbed that serves as the key element of a green infrastructure system, and the chabana (flowers for tea) garden, which is not open to the public and features seasonally-organized native and Japanese wildflowers.
