University of Washington Botanic Gardens Plant CSI Series: The Trouble with Roses - Common Diseases and Pests (1.75 CEUs)
Tuesday, June 13, 2023, 9:00 AM - 10:45 AM PDT
Category: E-Learning

Become a Plant Crime Scene Investigator (CSI)! Learn about key plant diseases and insect pests that can cause problems for favorite trees and shrubs in the landscape. Shakespeare wrote “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”. But why do they often look so bad? This class will discuss diseases and insect pests common to roses grown in the maritime Pacific Northwest, including blackspot, rust, cercospora leaf spot, powdery mildew, crown gall, cankers, rose mosaic virus, aphids, thrips, rose slug (sawfly), and gall wasp. Plant Health Care (PHC) approaches to management, including accepted Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methods will be covered.
